Une petite interview de l’artiste hollandais, Parra.
FNG Feature: Interview with Parra
1. INTRO
Hey there Parra, what’s up?
Hey guys! all good here..
Who or what are you?
I’m the guy you sometimes see on the blogs with his bird faced naked lady drawings and typography in Color
What do you believe in?
..in trying to do what you really like…wich can be very hard sometimes…
Can you describe your last 5 years by using 5 adjectives (or words)?
Pretty damn awesome…wait thats 3 words…is that ok too?
We love names/nick-names and their meanings. So please, where does “Parra” come from?
Parra comes from Parranoia! I used to be a bit parranoia in my early twenties and teens..
not anymore though…i think..
2. ARTS & MORE
PARRA/PATTA: wich logos came first? And could you tell us something more about your strong and “iconic” relationship with them?
haha…Parra was First then my long time friends opened up PATTA.. Being really good friend they asked me to do the logo and a lot of other projects later. It is based on a long time friendship.
Wich artists or artistic movements have mostly inspired your art at the very beginnig?
I think Delta…not really his style, but how cool of a person he was to me and how creative he was and always working…he taught me a lot.. www.deltainc.nl/indexdeltainc.html
What are the influences and the emotional mechanisms that make your creative process develop?
It’s actually very simple…I just draw with pen and paper whats on my mind or in front of my eyes at that moment, and go with the flow, it’s not always terribly important what the illustration Is about half the time, its is mostly a reflection of how I feel and what I saw at that particular moment or the night before… sometimes it just funny or sarcastic, sometimes serious and someimes its a selfportrait in a way… for me it feels like youre watching a still of a moviescene, a very weird one…
Beyond the “free personal expression” which are the sectors in which you like to work the most? (advertising, fashion, illustration..)
Making tee shirts! always nice… and working on colorways for shoes sometimes.. oh and making music..
Have you ever coworked or considered to collaborate with a graphic designer on the re-visitation of pix for example? what do you think about it anyway?
I did some colab with Delta, a long time ago.. it turned out pretty cool…but after that i did not do it anymore..
its hard to find two styles that match in a good and bad way if you know what i mean…because delta’s stuff is so different it worked really well with my sill drawings..
How much freedom do you have in bringing on complex projects with great labels such as in the case of your collaboration with NIKE “Sound of AM90?”
Actually its pretty damn Free…you get some guidelines, but further that that you’re pretty much free to do what you want…not too many naked ladies though…
How many collaborations have you made in the last 5 years (circa)? what’s the “oddiest/freakiest” one?
damn i dont know…
Weirdest one might be the ‘unofficial’ Nike SB douchebag giveaway bag we made for the exhibition at the Lazy Dog in Paris..
How much time do you spent for your brand, Rockwell?
Its always in the back of my mind, and while i’m working i’m collecting stuff for Rockwell…
its all kind of combined, working for exhibitions and for Rockwell i use the same work for it… a Rockwell parra tee collection is like a mini exhibition on clothing…
3. MUSIC
What’s your musical background? and what do you listen to nowadays?
Form rock to punk to hiphop to grunge to hiphop to rock to house to glamrock to italo disco!
…and what about “Italo Disco”?
…its amazing! www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ2N6aI0Mwo&fmt=18
The cover of which cool record of the past you would like to re-design?
Maybe a David Bowie cover… or maybe just the NENO 12″ Messages from Tokyo
Which Yellow submarine character you wish you had designed?
haha…the evil blue hand for sure
